At Sunnyside we pride ourselves on being very approachable. You are always welcome to come in and have a chat if you have any concerns or you feel there is something specific that you feel we need to know.
Our aim is to develop a partnership between parents and school which will be of benefit to the children, their families and the school itself.
Please call our school office to arrange a tour or ask any questions you might have.
Settling In
Each child will go through a settling-in period in order to ease them into their new routine, during this time we will work closely with parents to achieve a smooth transition for each child into the nursery environment. When possible, for all our nursery children, we offer all families a home visit to provide parents/carers the opportunity to discuss their child with members of the nursery team. It also provides parents/carers the opportunity to book transition visits starting with the first session with both child and adult.
Curriculum
At Sunnyside Spencer Academy we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. The E.Y.F.S. is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning.
It is developed around 4 themes that underpin the E.Y.F.S.
- A Unique Child – Observe what a child is learning
- Positive Relationships – What adults can do
- Enabling Environments – What adults could provide
- Learning and Developing – Children’s achievements through the above

Nursery Fees and Funding
At Sunnyside Spencer Academy we are proud to be offering all our nursery pupils the opportunity to take their 15 funded hours either as 2 full days and 1 half day or 5 mornings or 5 afternoons.
3 and 4 year olds may be entitled to 30 hours free childcare, if their parents are working. If your child is on our nursery waiting list and you think you may qualify, please let the school office know.
Please note that once you have started your child’s funded hours this would have to stay in place for at least a term. We would not allow children to change their days due to continuity and stability.
