Relationships & Sex Education

In an ever changing world, rich with diversity, there has never been a more prevalent time to educate our children and equip them with the knowledge which promotes their spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development as well as their understanding of relationship and sex education, thus supporting them in making the best choices as they transition from childhood to adulthood.

Sunnyside’s SCARF curriculum aims to give pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. Pupils learn how best to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society who can respect themselves and others. Pupils are skilled in knowing how to remain physically and mentally well, taught how to establish healthy relationships with others and are provided with the information required to make responsible decisions as young adults, recognising threats to their wellbeing and that of others. Our children are helped to recognise risky behaviours and how to respond and act appropriately. They are also shown where to access appropriate help in a range of situations. The SCARF curriculum follows current, mandatory guidelines on Relationship and Sex Education.
